Timothy Liles is an artist and designer who grew up on the sunny shores of Long Island, "learning to shuck clams and tie perfect cleat knots." He attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, where he "decided to risk loss of vital appendages to unforgiving, wood-eating monsters by studying furniture design". Tim explains, "Staring into the eyes of a gorgeous piece of walnut lumber one day, I fell in love and never once doubted my decision".
A longtime fan of the Chuck Taylor" All Star" sneaker, Tim notes that while it is often referred to as a blank canvas, it represents quite a lot more. "It's a hopeful beginning, a shoe so saturated with positive feelings from its long history as a fashion and sports icon it could only help the cause of any artist willing to embellish it." Tim describes his 1HUND (RED) Artists "100 Uppers" Chuck Taylor All Star shoe as "layers of hope, layers of protection, layers of love, all times 100".

Artist and illustrator Camilla Engman grew up in the small Swedish town TrollhAttan where she originally developed her slightly magical and naive aesthetic. It's also where she started wearing Converse--even through the cold Swedish winters with very thick socks.
For her 1HUND (RED) Artists design, Camilla turned to Little Red Riding Hood, inspired by the fairy tale heroine's care and kindness. "She's brave and doesn't expect anything bad to happen--and that is how it should be," Camilla explains. "I want that for people, not to expect bad things, to have hope and be optimistic."

Car designers typically work on one tiny part of an auto, the door handle, say, or the locks, while it can take a decade for their design to reach the market. Which is one reason Umbereen Qureshi was excited to design a 1HUND (RED) shoe. That, "and it was such an honor," she says "to use design to convey an important message."
Her shoe sports a repeated image of Africa. She explains, "When you're in school, you're told that if you repeat something you'll remember it, but it's so easy for us to turn the page or the channel and forget. We're all human beings and if something happens somewhere in the world to someone, then it's happening to all humanity."

Steven Monti has been designing shoes for some of the top shoe companies in America for over ten years. His inspiration for most of his work comes from an optimistic "anything is possible" attitude.
Steve's 1HUND (RED) Artists design was inspired by both his children and his childhood memories. "My inspiration came from that innocence and optimism we all had as children. I remember making paper dolls," he explains, "and the magic of cutting a protile of one person out of folded paper, then unfolding it to see that you've created a group of people holding hands. It echoes my hopes of what this shoe could achieve."
